In local news, a man is behind bars tonight after a high-speed police chase through the streets of the city. The man, who has not yet been identified, is suspected of having stolen more than 100 automobiles in the area over the past year. In national news, the President and First Lady left Washington today to vacation in Martha's Vineyard. The President will be joined by the Vice President. Their vacation is expected to last ten days, although it could be cut short, according to a White House spokesperson. The spokesperson told reporters today that the President may find it necessary to spend extra time lobbying legislators on his latest health care reform package. In international news, some Australians had a rude awakening this morning. A meteorite hit the township of Broken Hill in New South Wales last night, causing earthquake-like vibrations throughout the area. Hundreds of distressed residents called police saying they had seen a huge white light plummeting toward the ground. Police were not aware of the exact location of impact, but scientists confirmed it was a meteorite. In sports, the Houston Rockets celebrate another NBA title as they beat the Orlando Magic in four straight games. This is the second national sports victory for the city of Houston and one that will not soon be forgotten. Today's weather forecast looks fair and mild for the remainder of the day. Temperatures will drop to the mid 40s by midnight tonight. And tomorrow looks to be slightly cooler with a high of 68 degrees. The weeklong outlook calls for a warming trend by the middle of the week, followed by a chance of increasing wind and showers as a minor front moves across the state.
