EXERCISE #5 Afternoon Report Two armed women robbed a downtown bank of more than one million dollars this afternoon. Police are in pursuit. I'm __________________. I'll have details on this and other stories along with traffic and weather in a moment. Good afternoon. Here are today's headlines. In what is being called the Thelma and Louisecape, the downtown branch of Midwest Savings Bank was robbed just hours ago by two women. The women made off with more than one million dollars in cash. No one was hurt in the incident. And our newsroom has just obtained a home video tape shot by someone just outside the bank showing the escape of the unmasked duo. At the moment, the footage is being studied by forensic experts for identification of the two bank robbers. Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to call metro police. A $10,000 cash reward has been offered by the bank for help leading to the arrest of the two women. We'll play the videotape again on our evening and late evening news. We'll be back with national news and weather after the following important messages. In national news, Wall Street reported record activity as the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached a record high-almost 100 points above the previous record high. Financial guru Louis Rukeyser attributes the gain to a steadily improving economy and a balancing of the foreign trade deficit. Gold and silver prices were down today, as is often the case when the Dow rises. Gold sank $37 an ounce and silver $20 an ounce. And here's a bit of interesting news in the worlds of business and entertainment. Dateline Madrid, Spain. Two former Benedictine monks who say they scored the music on a hot-selling CD of Gregorian chants, claim they are entitled to $5 million in royalties. The 2-disk CD entitled "The Best of Gregorian Chants," unexpectedly soared to the top of the Spanish music charts and then gained worldwide sales of more than $3 million. Music company officials claim the chants are public domain and are not protected by copyright. They also say that such chants cannot be scored or arranged, as the monks claim they did, because these are simply songs that have been sung seven times a day for hundreds of years. Turning now to sports, Olympic Gold Medalist Tommy Moe surprised reporters at a press conference today when he announced that he will be preparing for the next Winter Olympics after all. A few weeks earlier, the two-time medal winning ski champ said he was not planning to appear at the next Winter Games for personal reasons. However, that apparently has changed. Moe will be training near his home in Anchorage, Alaska. Look for Moe to appear on this winter's World Cup circuit as well. Traffic in the metro area is pretty smooth and trouble free at this hour. No major accidents to report. We'll have a more detailed traffic report from the Traffic Watch copter during our next report at five o'clock. In weather, temperatures are falling gradually as a cool air mass envelopes the region. We can expect lows tonight in the 30s and a possible record low tomorrow of 29 degrees. There you have it for this afternoon. Thank you for joining us. I'm ____________________. Have a pleasant day. ANNC: You've been watching the Afternoon Report with ________________.
