Exercise #7 Eye on the Nation #1 A new international airport for the metro areas. #2 And heavy rain is in the forecast. I'm _________________ . # 1 And I'm ___________________. Join us for Eye on the Nation, next! #1 Hello and welcome to Eye on the Nation. Our first story highlights the opening of the new International Airport. It promises to become one of the busiest and most technically advanced aviation centers in the United States. After failed attempts to open the 4.2 billion dollar airport by last Christmas of, the official opening occurs this week, hosted by the mayor. The $200 million automated baggage system, which was plagued with operational glitches, now seems to work fine. The new airport's chief customer is United Airlines, which has contributed large amounts of money to the construction of the new facility. United will claim most of the B concourse. Meanwhile, no one has decided what to do with the old International Airport near downtown. Ideas have ranged from making it into a general aviation airport to turning it into a business park. Most likely, the acreage from the old airport grounds will be redeveloped into residential neighborhoods to accommodate the city's rapidly growing population. V/O: The new airport has some of the newest technology of any airport in the world with the ability to land planes in almost any weather. And a light rail is being constructed that runs from downtown Denver to the new airport about ten miles away. #2 V/O: The first section of the light rail will be finished next month. Then, contractors will work on the extension that takes metro area passengers from downtown to the new International Airport. #1: In financial news, the Dow Jones Industrial Average worried investors today by dropping 100 points. The drop came as a surprise during a week that has historically been a high one for the Dow. Analysts with Dean Witter Brokerage attribute the drop to poor earnings for some of the biggest Blue Chips including United Airlines and IBM. We'll recap some of the day's biggest winners and losers tonight on the Business Update portion of the eleven o'clock news. In a moment, we'll have weather, but first, a word from one of our sponsors. ----------------------------------- #2 Here's a look at the weather. The forecast calls for rain. We can expect two to three inches of rain as a cold front heads for the city. That front should reach us within the next couple of hours. Daytime highs probably won't exceed 53 degrees and the nighttime low of 35 could include rain turning to light snow by midnight, unless of course that system moves on before the temperatures drop. That's it for weather. More updates during our 11:00 news. And that's our report for today. I'm _______________________. #1 And I'm _______________________. Thanks for joining us. Tune in again tomorrow for Eye On The Nation.
