Hello, and thanks for joining us on News Extra. 
 In national headlines, the Boeing company announced the successful test flight of its new 777 aircraft, the first fully computer designed airplane in Boeing's history. The plane is close to the size of a 747, but uses only two jet engines and is more automated and fuel efficient than any commercial aircraft to date. Boeing says it has orders to provide 57 aircraft to companies around the world. United Airlines has ordered 12 of the new 777s and Asian countries have ordered more than 30.

And on the local scene, today marks the beginning of the national western rodeo and stock show.

It's been a mayoral race that some have called nasty. And it's down to two people, the mayor and his foremost opponent who is my guest here in the studio. We'll hear his/her ideas for the city and how he/she plans to beat the incumbent and what he/she would do about various problems that affect our city if  he/she were elected. And finally, the news you've been waiting to hear-a cooling trend. This heat wave that has caused terrible water shortages and fire danger in the hills is finally coming to an end. Temperatures will drop and rain is actually in sight as a cold front moves our way tonight and should pass through completely by morning. 
The following twenty-four hour period should see 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rain in the city. Much needed.
